Creating bulk requests

Ensure that you upload a file that meets the following requirements:

• The file is in .txt or .csv format. Separate each identifier with a return (press Enter on your keyboard).
• The file does not exceed 2048 KB in size.

• The file contains a list of one of the following types of device identifiers:

  • Serial number The identification number assigned to the device by the device manufacturer. For Windows devices, this value may correspond to the serial number of the BIOS, the motherboard, or the chassis, depending on the manufacturer.
  • Identifier The unique Electronic Serial Number (ESN) assigned to the Secure Endpoint Agent that is installed on a device.
  • Annotated asset ID (Chromebook) For Chromebook devices, the asset identifier populated by the Google Administrator. Maps to the Asset ID field in the Google Admin console.

  • Device name The name assigned to the device in the operating system. For Chromebooks, device name is not applicable and therefore shows as "Chrome" in the Secure Endpoint Console.

    If some devices in your account share the same device name, they are all included in the temporary report that is generated from the uploaded file. Before selecting devices to include in the action request, review the device list to ensure that you select the intended devices only.

• The file contains valid device identifiers only. Device identifiers are valid if they are associated with devices that belong to your Absolute account, and to your assigned device groups.

  If you include invalid device identifiers in the uploaded file, the file is still processed. The invalid identifiers are added to a separate report that you can view and export. Learn more

Each action has its own per-request device limit. Note these device limits also apply when you're submitting a bulk request.

To perform an action by uploading a file of device identifiers:

1. Prepare a file containing the list of device identifiers. Ensure the file meets the specified file requirements.
2. Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with the required permissions to perform the desired action.
3. On the quick access toolbar, click (Upload device list).
4. On the Upload device list page:

   1. Upload the file by doing one of the following:

      • In File Explorer, navigate to and select the device list file and then drag it to the Upload device list dialog.

      • Click Browse files, navigate to and select the device list file, and click Open.

      The file name of the uploaded file is added to the dialog.

   2. Under Device list type, select the device identifier included in the device list file.

      If you select an incorrect device list type, all devices are treated as invalid in the next step.

   3. Click Proceed. The file upload starts.

   4. In the small Device list uploaded notification that shows near the top of the window, click View.

      The Devices from uploaded file page opens to show the devices included in the uploaded file.

      Note that if the file includes one or more invalid device identifiers, they could not be processed and a warning banner shows near the top of the page.

      1. To view the invalid device identifiers, click View invalid devices and review the Failure reason for each device.

      2. Do one of the following:

         • To export the list of invalid devices, click Export to CSV and download the generated file. The file name is Invalid rows from <uploaded file name>_<date>.csv.

         • To upload a new file, or select or different device list type, click Re-upload device list.

         • To close the dialog and return to the Devices from uploaded file page, click .

   5. [Optional] To export the Devices from uploaded file page to a report, click (Export).

5. Do one of the following:
   Submit a device action request

   1. In the results grid, select each device you want to include in the request. To select all devices, select the Select All checkbox in the result grid header. To select consecutive devices, select the first device and then hold down the Shift key and select the last device. To remove all selections, click Clear all.

   2. Click the device action that you want to submit. For example, click Freeze.
   3. Complete the remaining steps to submit the device action request you selected. For details, see the Help topic for the applicable device action in Related topics.
   Add devices to a new or existing static group
   

   1. Click Create or add to device group.
   2. Do one of the following:
      • To create a static device group and add all valid devices to it:
        1. Leave the Create static group option selected.
        2. Enter a Group name and Description.
        3. Click Save.

        The new static group is created, and a Static device group created event is logged to Event History.

      • To add all valid devices to an existing static device group:

        If you are updating a permission group, the Edit permission groups permission for Device Groups and folders is required.

        1. Select the Add to static group option.
        2. Click the Device group field and select a static group from the list.
        3. Click Save.

        The devices are added to the static group, and a Static device group updated event is logged to Event History.
